Now that the season has wrapped up and the icehouse closed down, the Capital Planning in support of a new facility is in full swing. Key activities in progress include:
We hope to have an update to our members in July with initial contact to key donors in August timeframe.
Capital Planning Committee: Ian Journeaux, Don Guay, Casey Konopacky, Sandra Kawleski, Nick Bandow, Kim Nawyn, Matthew Rueth
In our club's effort to increase visability in the community our club will be in the 4th of July Parade. We need 20-30 members and family to march in the parade in downtown Stevens Point. This will represent the 'face' of our club so we would really like a variety of people. Children and entire families are welcome. We will have treats for the kids, and will be handing out fliers announcing the Learn to Curl events planned for October and January. We will be carrying a banner and using rolling curling stones that we have on loan from USCA. ALL participants get a free, brand new, logo club t-shirt to wear. The parade is from noon - 1:00.

The Stevens Point Curling Club plans to build a dedicated ice facility that can support current programming and expand opportunities for youth, senior, and wheelchair curlers to participate in the sport. In addition to league curling, bonspiels, and championships, this expanded facility will offer the space needed to host special interest groups and school classes of all ages.
Ideal Location
The Portage County Curling Facility will be located in Lake PacawaPark in the Village of Plover. The facility is a key component of the village’s long-term plan for redevelopment of the park, which is nestled between Hoover Avenue South and Interstate 39 . The location is easily accessible for all residents of Portage County and visitors to the area from greater Wisconsin and across the nation.
Facility Design
The approximately 20,000 sq. ft. facility will feature four curling sheets, which will double the number of people who can currently curl at any given time. The design allows for expansion of two additional sheets should need warrant in the future.

Features include:
The space will also be available for use by other community organizations and for rentals during the spring and summer.
Benefits to the Community

Kids Curl 2020
The 2020 Kid Curl program consists of four, one-hour sessions that will include a variety of on-ice activities and instruction. The program is geared to those between ages of 6-10 (experience does not matter, we’ll have some children who have been on the ice for years and for some it’ll be the first time on the ice). Our goal is to help children understand the basics of curling; we’ll learn how to slide, sweep basic curling terminology as well as safety instruction. The cost is $20, which covers all the instruction and equipment. We’ll also have a snack/social time at the end of our sessions.
Where: Stevens Point Curling Club. 1628 Country Club Drive (we share the driveway with the golf course. You will see the green building on the right-hand side of the parking lot (east).
When:
What to wear/bring: Layered, comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict movement is ideal and children are welcome to wear hats and mittens while curling. The air temperature on the ice is usually around 35-40 degrees. Please bring clean athletic shoes/sneakers to change into to help us keep the ice clean.
Parents/legal guardians will need to sign a minor release liability waiver prior to their children participating in the program.
Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay. If you have never been to the curling club, we have a clubhouse area complete with viewing area, locker rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and lounge with tv. It is a great opportunity to get acquainted with the club. If some else is bringing your child, please make the instructor aware prior to the start of the session.
