KidsCurl Curling Program
The Stevens Point Curling Club will be conducting a four-session program of “KidsCurl” designed for kids in the 6 to 9 age range. Last year, the United States Curling Association selected our club (along with 9 others through the United States) in a pilot program with the intent of introducing kids to the sport of curling. Participants can expect a basic introduction to curling skills and game knowledge. Participants will receive pins patches for completion of the program.
This is a free four-week session program with a limited amount of spaces. The sessions are held on Sunday afternoons and last approximately one hour. Lead Instructors will have program material, passed appropriate background checks, and received USOC Safesport training.
To register or ask questions, please email Art Rebischke (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) or Jeff Lila (This email address is being protected from spambots. Team Wisconsin, including Andie McDonald, Ellie Vorpahl, and Stevens Point's Rachel Kawleski and Suzanna Viau, and coached by Stevens Point's Lori Kawleski, advanced to the tiebreaker round of the Under-18 Women's National Championship at the Milwaukee Curling Club. They finished the tournament with three wins (including two in extra ends) and three losses (with one in an extra end). Their loss in the tiebreaker left them just short of the championship semifinal. The Stevens Point Curling Club is extremely proud of our team for getting so far on the national stage.

The Stevens Point girls team, coached by Patti Henning, won their pool by defeating teams from: Menomonie, Wausau East, and Lodi. The second seeded team consisting of: Suzanna Viau, Rachel Kawleski, Anissa Zaske, Elizabeth Rubenzer, Krista Domaszek won the semifinal game against Wausau West to earn a spot in the Final game against Pardeeville. The championship game started out very close, and after a few great ends, the Stevens Point team made key shots to win. The victory earned them the title of 2017 Wisconsin State High School Girls Curling Champions, the first high school championship for the Stevens Point Curling Club in the 58 year history of the event.
The girls team started in the Little Rocks program over 6 years ago, and truly have developed a love of the sport. The girls would curl on the weekends at the club and competed in junior bonspiels around WI and MN, and have attended summer Curling Camps together. The girls also competed this past year in the WI U18 National Playdowns. All of their hard work has paid off.
The Stevens Point Curling club offers curling experiences for youth and adults of all ages. Many of the Stevens Point high School curlers began curling as part of the Stevens Point Curling Clubs Little Rocks instructional program providing youth an opportunity to explore the sport of curling in a fun and safe environment.
